How to choose material for a stand-up pouch.
Start with the product and the way the pouch will be filled, handled and displayed. Material selection follows the performance requirement; it is not a one-size-fits-all choice.

The right pouch material depends on the job. A buyer should define the product, target pouch size, handling conditions, display needs and required features before assuming a particular film structure will fit.
Start with the product and pack format
Share whether the pouch will hold dry goods, powders, small parts, samples or another product type, along with the expected fill volume or finished dimensions. The pouch needs enough space for the product and a practical seal area while presenting well on shelf or in shipment.
Decide which features matter
| Feature | Buyer question | Quotation impact |
|---|---|---|
| Stand-up base | Does the pouch need to remain upright at retail? | Changes the structure and finished dimensions. |
| Resealable closure | Will the customer open and close the pouch more than once? | Requires the selected closure format to be included in the specification. |
| Tear notch or hang hole | How should customers open or display the pouch? | Affects layout, conversion and available panel space. |
| Print and finish | What artwork, colour and finish is required? | Changes print method, proofing and pricing variables. |
Request documentation instead of assuming it
If the project has a food-contact, recycled-content, certification or end-of-life requirement, state it in the brief. Availability and documentation must be confirmed for the exact pouch, production run and delivery destination.
Build a complete pouch RFQ
- Product description and desired pouch dimensions or fill volume.
- Required features, including closure, tear notch, window or hang hole.
- Artwork status, print coverage and finish preferences.
- First-run quantity, expected reorder quantity and delivery destination.
- Any material-performance or documentation requirement.
MOQ, price and production or shipping timing vary according to the full specification. Apex confirms those details in a product-specific quotation.
