Compostable polybags vs PCR polybags is not a simple good-versus-better decision. Compostable bags need a real composting path
Compostable packaging is only useful when the receiving market can process it correctly. If the customer throws the bag into regular waste, the claim may not deliver the intended environmental benefit. If the bag enters recycling, it may create contamination. Buyers should ask where the bag will go after use and whether that path accepts the exact material.
Documentation matters. Ask which compostability standard applies, whether the material is home or industrial compostable, and what language can be printed on the bag. Storage also matters. Some compostable films are more sensitive to heat, humidity, and long shelf life than standard LDPE. If the bags sit in a warehouse for months before use, that detail belongs in the RFQ.
PCR polybags focus on recycled content and durable handling
PCR means post-consumer recycled content. A PCR polybag uses recycled resin from material that has already been used by consumers and reprocessed into new film. Buyers often choose PCR when they need a recycled-content story without changing the handling behavior as much as a compostable film might.
The key question is percentage. A bag with a small PCR percentage and a bag with a high PCR percentage can behave differently in strength, clarity, colour, and print quality. Buyers should ask for the PCR percentage, whether the bag can meet the required gauge, and what documentation supports the recycled-content claim.

Do not approve artwork before claim wording is checked
Sustainability claims printed on a bag should be reviewed before plates, proofs, or production files are approved. Words like compostable, recyclable, recycled content, and biodegradable are not interchangeable. A buyer should confirm the allowed wording, any logo or certification mark rules, and whether the claim needs a qualifier such as industrial composting only.
